kingzy.shop – Why is Community Corner buzzing about plug-in electric vehicles? There are many advantages to electric driving, but the main motivation is to save fuel and protect the environment
We hear a lot about plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) these days, but why? There are many benefits to going electric, but for people serious about plug-in electric vehicles, the main motivation is fuel economy and environmental benefits.
Electric Car Cost Savings
Fuel Cost Savings – Plug-in electric vehicle owners can save significant money by reducing fuel costs. A good way to estimate these potential savings is to compare the cost of a gallon of gasoline to the cost of an e-gallon (egallon). According to the US Department of Energy (DOE), a gallon is the cost of refueling a vehicle with electric power compared to the same gas-powered vehicle. Based on RMLD’s residential electric rates, RMLD customers pay between $0.95 and $1.17 per gallon compared to the Massachusetts average gas price of $2.94/gallon. This equates to a savings of $500 to $1,000 per year (depending on vehicle type, make, model, and annual mileage). Check out the DOE fuel economy calculator at https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/savemoney.jsp and compare fuel prices by make and model and see what you can save.

Environmental Benefits – PEVs have been proven to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions When charged using electricity produced from fossil fuels, a PEV emits much lower greenhouse gas emissions than conventional gas-powered vehicles. Because natural gas is the primary fuel used to generate electricity in the Northeast, renewable energy sources are on the rise, making the electricity generated in the region one of the cleanest in the country.
Many other factors contribute to the popularity of PEVs Technology is improving, so range is increasing while the cost of batteries is falling Auto manufacturers are introducing more models each year, so there are more choices Federal and state governments are becoming more aggressive with environmental goals, so they are buying PEVs to increase consumer adoption offers attractive incentives to lower the acquisition price. Some states have programs to expand the availability of charging stations to give owners more options when it comes to charging their vehicles.
The Municipal Lighting Department (RMLD) recently launched a summer plug-in electric vehicle pilot rebate program that offers residential customers a $1,500 rebate and a $1,000 rebate on the lease or purchase of a new or used battery electric vehicle. Plus, lease or buy a new hybrid electric vehicle. Customers must deliver vehicle by October 31, 2018 to qualify Click here for more information
Want to learn more about PEVs? Stop by RMLD’s Plug-in Electric Vehicle Ride and Drive event on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Swain Green parking lot across from the Town Common at the corner of Middlesex Avenue and School Street in Wilmington. .
Electric Vehicles: How “plugged In” Are Car Shoppers In 2023?
RMLD Releases Details on Plug-in Electric Vehicles This Summer Stay tuned for our next article: Plug-in Electric Vehicles 101. Click here to view our collection of articles. Electric vehicle (EV) drivers on the road must learn a new skill: decision making. Their electric cars cost more to fill up Compared to gasoline prices that are clearly displayed on roads across the country, most people don’t know the cost of electricity in their state or city, or even what a kilowatt hour is. Most EV charging calculators require users to enter this information or enter the vehicle’s battery size. Meanwhile, gas-powered vehicles average more than 400 miles per fill-up, while the average EV’s range reached 291 miles last year. Comparing the cost of filling up a gas-powered vehicle with an electric vehicle is not a side-by-side comparison. EV charging is designed to remove these barriers for the EV driver (or potential driver). This tool knows the average price of gasoline and electricity in the selected state. It also knows the average range of the vehicle on a fully charged battery or gas tank. This allows consumers to accurately compare the cost of filling up a gas vehicle compared to EV alternatives.
